Thousands Welcomed Scotty McCreery Home To Garner, NC

Thousands of "American Idol" fans turned out in a small North Carolina town to welcome home finalist Scotty McCreery.

McCreery rode a yellow convertible through the streets of his hometown of Garner on Saturday, blowing kisses. He signed autographs before a scheduled concert. Afterward, he threw out the first pitch at a baseball game in nearby Raleigh between N.C. State and Florida State.

The 17-year-old McCreery is one of three semifinalists on "American Idol," and celebrations also are being held for Haley Reinhart and Lauren Alania. One of the three will be voted off the show next week, and the 10th season winner will be named May 26.

McCreery says he was honored by the hometown support and was glad to finally hear Southern accents again.

It funny how you commend this young man, but could not find it in your heart to commend the young man drafted to the cowboys. That's Good Ole NC for you.

Good for him. I think the top three each have a big enough fan base to be successful. He has a good All-American image.

Those of you who criticize this fine, Christian young man are just plain ignorant -- and you have tin ears as well. I guess you like the "modern music" that has drven many Americans to Country & Western -- a genre that allows them to enjoy the melody and understand the lyrics.

I love Scotty myself, and I'm 47, and female! The guy has talent; to all the haters, I'm pretty sure ya'll don't have the talent that Scotty has! I also love Lauren, Haley shouldn't be in the final three!!
