Teen Facing Charges After Skinning Cat

A teen is facing charges after posting pictures of a skinned cat skull on social media sites.

According to our sister station WECT deputies in New Hanover County started investigating 18-year-old Amber Baird after receiving multiple reports that she was involved in animal cruelty.

Once the investigation began, deputies found pictures of the skinned animal on several of Baird's social media accounts.

Baird admitted to skinning the animal, but told authorities that she and a friend found it dead on the side of the road.

Deputies were unable to charge Baird with animal cruelty because the charges only apply to live animals; however, after consulting with animal control they were able to charge her with violating county civil codes.

Deputies are still investigating the incident, due to Baird receiving several death threats steaming from the pictures.

Yes indeed! I'm proud my baby girl can skin a cat. Hmmm...I would be a little disturbed to know my child had skinned anything dead or alive. Why couldn't she just make a nice macaroni necklace for her mom instead? btw...which part did she bring home? the cat or the fur?

First of all let me state that I am an avid animal lover. However I am also a great lover of people too. I think bashing this young women for doing this ( however evil and stupid you might think it was ) is going a bit far considering the things that are allowed for scientific or cosmetic testing reasons. She said the animal was dead so leave it at that. If she gets caught skinning any animal while it is alive I say then consider her mental health otherwise drop it.

Why so many ridiculous comments based on appearance of this girl and a stupid chunk of roadkill. There are several words to discribe them; overhype, animaniacs, hypocritical, intolerant, bloviation, exageration, unconstitutional witch hunting and a few others that I will save after the next blatherer chimes in.

I love to eat meat and don't give a flip about a dead cat found on the side of the road. Still hope she gets these trumped up charges dismissed.
