Taft's Friends Still Haunted By Murder

Friends who knew state school board member Kathy Taft of Greenville say it was upsetting to hear graphic and disturbing new details about what happened to her the night she was killed as the trial got underway for the man accused of killing her.

Taft was staying at a friend's house in Raleigh recovering from cosmetic surgery when authorities say Jason Williford bashed her over the head with a rock and raped her.

Former neighbors, like Mary McConnell, say the devastating story of what happened to their friend and neighbor still haunts them. "I think about it almost every day, because I can't walk out of my house and not look over that way and think of her."

While many remember Taft as a state school board remember who was actively involved in the Greenville community, neighbors remember her as very kind and outgoing.
