Small Businesses Get Loans To Tackle DOT Work

Small businesses owned by women or minorities that contract with the U.S. Department of Transportation soon will have access to a new form of financing for building projects.

A Durham-based community development financial institution is inviting small businesses with DOT contracts to apply for loans of up to $250,000 on its web site.

The Support Center is the only statewide lender for DOT contractors. It can make loans to small businesses certified to work on federally funded DOT projects and in operation for at least three years.

Projects can include road and bridge maintenance, new construction or other DOT projects.

Heaven forbid that this country ever even consider best qualified for hiring employees and/or awarding government contracts. The NAACP would scream "racism" and the liberal zealots would scream "conservative elitism"!

I know of some businesses that are put in the wife's name just so they can have a better chance at getting a contract. If a business has the proper equipment and people with experience - that should qualify them. I am a white female and have never liked the notion of giving something to someone just because of race or gender. Get your experience at small jobs you can handle, prove yourself, and then you are entitled to "win a bid".

Why can't the state quit wasting money giving bids to people of certain race or color and just simply give the job to those who qualify?

The NCDOT truely needs to make sure that these so call small business or dbe's are truely qualified an have the proper an right equipment to be able too successfully handle these projects as perdescribed an laid out in their so call conrtracts an in accordance with the states own specefications for roadways an bridges . The NCDOT also need to make doubly sure that their personnel an manger of these DBE'S are qulitified an campable of understandin adhere an directing their personnel in such a manner that these project are built in accordance with the ncdot speces plnas an roadway standard drawing so as to totaly protect the taxpayers instrest from the possibility of these contractors going into default of these contracts an not being able to finish the s construction projects an having to throw them up on their bond holders to complete them for these contractors . i have seen incident where that this did occur an the taxpayers are always the one that have to bite the bullet so to speake to end up paying for the kinds of fail construction projects thank you

Women or minorities ?? How about my small business ?? I'm a middle aged white guy !!! I'm so sick of this reverse racism, political justice bull crap ! Women and minorities have EXACTLY the same oppurtunity to succeed as I do, if they are willing to work at it. Why should tax payer money be GIVEN to them ??? What incentive will they have to make their business work ? If they close up, they have lost NOTHING !!!!!!!!!!! Use your own money, it makes your decision much harder with you know that YOUR money will be gone if you mess up. Geeeze !

See? Government spending goes to small businesses. Cut out government spending and you cut out small businesses. Cut out small businesses and you have high unemployment and a stagnant economy. Republicans and Tea Partiers, who are the primary cause of the tight government spending, are the ones responsible for the unemployment and the stagnant economy. To stiumlate the economy, vote out all Republicans. They are NOT friends of small business; they are friends of big business and the ultra-rich.
