Showtime Series 'Homeland' Leaving Charlotte

The Showtime series "Homeland" is moving its production out of North Carolina.

The Charlotte Observer reports (http://bit.ly/1hfSsUD) the popular television series is taking its upcoming season to South Africa after spending its first three season shooting primarily around the Charlotte area.

Since production on the pilot began in 2011, a number of North Carolina sites have stood in for various locations in the northern Virginia area.

Executive producer Alex Gansa said the crew knew that in season four, production would have to be moved to tell the story of Claire Danes' character returning to the Middle East.

Charlotte Regional Film Commission director Beth Petty said "Homeland" is possibly still considering shooting part of the series in Charlotte. But Petty also said creatively, the move works for the show.
