Reaction To Ryan Speech

Republican VP candidate Paul Ryan talked to several thousand at ECU Monday with hundreds more watching a live broadcast from nearby Hendrix Theater.

WITN'S Dan Yesenosky spoke with a lot of different people after the speech was over, and while they acknowledged the long wait in line, and the process of going through security, they all said Ryan's speech was well worth the wait. They said they believe North Carolina is crucial for the election, and they want to make sure their state chooses Romney & Ryan.

Ryan covered many different issues, but for those in attendance, certain things he discussed really hit home. Mike Willard of Windsor said, "God and country. And the fact that he touched on local Eastern North Carolina and that we do mean something to the country."

ECU Junior Katherine Ferri told us, "I liked when he was talking about bringing jobs back from overseas to America, our homeland. That's definitely something that needs to happen."

ECU Junior Juan Vergara said, "I'm gonna enter the job market pretty soon, and I want to hear what both sides have to say, but I definitely agree with the GOP side more.

Vergara says the fact that Ryan chose ECU this early in his campaign tour says a lot about the university. "Makes us feel great, definitely gives us pride in our school that they would come here. I'm just very excited that they're here."

And on their day off from classes for Labor Day, many students took advantage of the opportunity to see Ryan speak.

Vergara says he realizes how important the youth vote was for Barack Obama's campaign four years ago. But he wasn't 18 and missed voting by a couple of months. This time around, that won't be the case. "They need us this year for victory. That's why we're here, that's why we came out today. To show our support."
