Fraternity brothers of a former East Carolina University student are mourning the loss of a Phi Kappa Tau brother after he was found dead in Raleigh Tuesday.

Weston Vandermerwe was just 23-years-old. Raleigh police say Department of Transportation crews found his body off of Interstate 40 Tuesday. He had been missing since Saturday morning. Police say his death is being investigated as a hit and run. We spoke with some of Vandermerwe's fraternity brothers.

"Who could do that, you know, and just not say anything about it and have the consciousness to drive off. It's just, it's awful," said Tyler Dannenbaum.

The fraternity brothers say they are planning a candlelight vigil for ECU students at some point in the near future. No funeral arrangements have been scheduled at this time.
Raleigh police say a body found along I-40 is that of a missing ECU graduate.

Weston Vandermerwe's body was found Tuesday afternoon along Interstate 40 in Wake County by DOT crews.

The 23-year-old man was last seen in downtown Raleigh early Saturday morning. His family believed he was walking home to Apex after leaving downtown.

His death is being investigated as a hit and run.
