Pricier Visit To The Pump

While many eastern North Carolinians were hoping for a cheaper trip on the road this holiday, that does not appear to be the hand dealt at the pumps.

People statewide are seeing the first hike in gas prices since the weekend after Labor Day.

According to gasbuddy.com, the state average cost for a gallon of regular is about $3.31. That is a nine cent rise from this time last week.

This time last year, North Carolinians were 12 cents below the national average, while today they are paying a nickel more than the national average.

Before 5 a.m. Monday, WITN looked for the lowest prices around the east listed. Those results are listed below.

Greenville: Shell on Saint Johns Road, $3.25/gallon.

Kinston: Wilco Hess on W. Vernon Ave. and 258 N, $3.28/gallon.

Jacksonville: Wilco Hess on Western Blvd. near the college, $3.23/gallon.
