North Carolina residents who put down cash for the various lottery games made off with a lot of money in the past week, and the upcoming Powerball drawing could give one person a chance to claim even more.
Saturday's Powerball drawing is an estimated $181 million if taken as an annuity, or $123 million if claimed as a lump sum. If a North Carolina player matches all six numbers in the drawing, it would be the biggest win in the state since the lottery launched in 2006.
In the past seven days, players have collected more than $11.2 million in prizes from instant games, and in all, the N.C. Education Lottery awarded more than $14.5 million in prizes to lottery players.
