Two Women Stop Man From Beating Teenage Girlfriend In Asheville

Asheville police say two women who stopped a man from attacking his girlfriend acted bravely, but they aren't encouraging others to get involved in fights.

Police tell the Asheville Citizen-Times that civilians should call 911 for police.

Police say 37-year-old Candice Allen and 30-year-old Jombya Moore were treated at a hospital for cuts and released. They intervened when they saw a 26-year-old man beating his 16-year-old girlfriend Saturday in downtown Asheville.

Witnesses said when confronted, the man pulled a knife on the two women. Lt. Wally Welch says Allen wrestled the knife away from the man.

Welch says Zachary Kurt Hamilton is charged with assault with a deadly weapon and assault on a female. It wasn't known if he has an attorney.

What a scumbag! This man should probably be chared with sex with a minor as well since he is 26 and his girlis only 16.

KUDOS to these women! And, of course the police have to tell people not to intervene. When ordinary people stop a crime, one of the first questions asked is "Well, where were the police?" You rarely see a cop when you really need one. They are too busy setting up speed traps and conduction other simple tasks. I called the cops when I witnessed a woman get hit by a car in Greensboro, but they are apparently too busy scratching their backsides to go after the guy. So much for protecting and serving.

No, it couldn't be Chris Brown, He's only 22 y/o. It wasn't O.J. Simpson, Kobe, Mike Tyson, Ike Turner....

My husband is 10 years older than I am. We've been married 15 years. When I'm 80 and he's 90, do you really think anyone will give a rodent's backside?

To So you're Saying. That was really a very dumb comment.Shows that your mind is in the gutter. If she was 20 and he was 30 does that really make a difference.10 year olds are in the 5th grade and I'm sure a 20 year old was not looking at her then, she was speaking of once we mature age is not a factor.

Once people MATURE, then age is a moot point. Until then, it matters.

Props to the two women for stepping up and helping out. The police are wrong. More people need to stand up for other people as well as fight back. It is time for the general public to help protect itself.

Thats right. Don't get involved take pictures and make a phone call. What a joke. Fire whoever made that statement. Thanks ladies. He should of been stabbed with the knife he pulled and would have if I'd of taken it from him.

I agree that it was great that these two women stepped up for their fellow woman (even though the girl tried to fight the girls off of her boyfriend). However, these two ladies are lucky they were confronted with a knife instead of a gun. I knew a guy who was shot doing the right thing, and the abusive guy got away with the girl. Be careful out there, and if you need to take someone down, be smart about it.

Her first mistake is dating a man that much older than her at the tender age of 16. There's a reason why a guy that old would even date her; she's jail-bait, to start with. Her lucky break was the two women taking a chance to help her out.

I was 26 when I married my 17 year old wife. That was 22 years ago. We loved each other is the reason we got married. How that was a mistake, I will never know. I love her more today then I did back then.

How was it illegal? We got married legally. How is it immoral? We love each other. Was it immoral when your great grandparents did it?

Immoral according to who? If you're going by the Bible it certainly isn't immoral. The Bible is filled with incest, rape, polygamy and underage relationships. And it clearly wasn't illegal if they were allowed to get married.

When men marry women THAT young and THAT much younger, it's usually because they need a woman they can easily control.

I was 16 and my husband was 21 and no we didn't have to get married. We have been married 50 years we have 4 children ages 48, 46, 38, 36. I was born and raised on a farm, started putting in tobacco at the age of 9. I think girls and boys were more mature at the age of 16 and 21 than they are this day and time. You ask a 9 year old to take out the trash today and he/she will tell you they don't know how or to do it yourself. The aversge girl at 16 today doesn't even know how to boil water and the average man at 21 is still living off mom and dad.

You are an inspiration! You have inspired me to make sure my children get as much education as possible so they don't end married at age 16 or even 21. Fifty years ago was only 1962, not 1922. Geez.

You are 100% right. I agree with everything you said there. It's the changes in maturity and responsibility that create so many problems these days.

I know you meant your comment to be sarcasticand there is nothing wrong with people having an education but there is other things in life that you should teach your children. Self respect, respect of others, responsibility, morale value and to be independent. Yoy don't have to worry about them ending up married at 16, the kids today are doing more at 16 than you and I did after we were married. As for education my husband and I have done quite well for ourselves,we own 5 houses, 2 farms and 4 business and no one die and left it to us we worked hard. How many couples to you know that have been married for 50 years? In todays world a marriage "might" last 5 years and thats stretching it a little. My point is maturity and responsibility along with education and common sense. Good luck and have a great day.

It's not a mistake if you have legal permission to do so. I'm assuming you had parental consent. Some people can make that kind of mature decision. You got married and she was one year or less from adulthood anyway. That's not the situation being described in this article.

Sometimes little Miss Jail Bait will have more street sense than the older guy and she will lie about her age. No excuses, the older guy will go to prison.

Was Obama's mother jail bait? She was 16 and his father was 26.It's easy to point a finger and to put a label on people.
