Plenty Of Exceptions To NC's Hiring Freeze

There have been nearly 500 exceptions to the hiring freeze North Carolina Gov. Beverly Perdue announced late last year to deal with state budget problems.

The News & Observer of Raleigh reported Thursday that only a handful of requests for exceptions have been turned down by the Office of Budget Management.

Perdue said there would be exceptions for public safety, teachers and other critical positions.

The newspaper said a review showed one of the exceptions was for a communications director for the lieutenant governor. A marketing specialist with the Wine & Grape Council was reclassified as a legislative researcher.

Perdue spokeswoman Chrissy Pearson says the 495 exemptions appear to be justified.

The Department of Correction has obtained 127 exceptions. The Revenue Department has received 74 exceptions.

The Highway Patrol is making 2 new Zone Major positions. This creates 2 new positions that are not needed and have not been used for years. Less than 2 years Bev and you are voted out.

What scares me is that there are people that ever believed that there was going to be a hiring freeze, that was only a small lie,"ever heard of a country self destructing"?

Have you heard the good news? PurrDumb wants to farm-out the State's Information Technology duties to private companies.....better look at what happen to Virginia and Texas....they thought it was a good idea too.....but hey, what citizen wouldn't want their "public records" and personal information taken care of by companies in India, Turkey, Mexico, etc.....Sometimes, Raleigh doesn't have good ideas....

Yeah, that's what some states thought about farming out court transcripts to "cheaper" transcriptionists and firing court reporters. Folks soon found out (witnesses & victims, too) that somebody in taiwan had access to their ss#, name, address, etc. You sometimes get what you pay for -- trouble.

Suggestions for saving money for the state; if you take welfare money you are either in school or you show up to the county DOT. Plenty of people can do menial jobs or even more skilled with learning. All we are doing right now is to hold a class hostage. You are paying for their housing and food so look at it as a benefit of the job till you can find something better....also, you will be required to take a drug test on a random schedule just like anyone else working for the government. This way no one could say you were deadbeat, it would give you and opportunity to go to school, community college, to learn a skill. Then if you couldn't make it through school, you would work for the community who pays you.....

Check to see who has received pay increases....especially in departments/divisions that have "rifted" employees.....you'll be SHOCKED at what is uncovered! PurrDumb and her ilk care nothing about the lowly....they pad their pockets and make sure they get their piece of the pie! Look at her "appointees" too....WASTE and CORRUPTION!

Erskine, What an ignorant comment. I agree that some of our Government should be done away with and or at least reigned in. But give me a break.

We should eliminate all government, taxes, political parties, and depend on private enterprise for our existence. Government and government employees serve no purpose and that includes the military and law enforcement

Hey Erskine.... Somalia... Yep, that's the place you want to move to. They haven't had a running government for several years now and everyone is free to fend for themselves.

If you look a little harder at the job listing, the job listings are for students.
