After 17 New York Times' Best-Sellers, hometown author Nicholas Sparks is debuting his newest novel in New Bern, and going for 18.

Sparks' newest book, "The Longest Ride" hits store shelves nationally on Tuesday.

The day of the debut, Sparks is staying local and sharing the experience with his hometown of New Bern.

Sparks was at the Target store on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard starting at 8 a.m. Tuesday to sign copies of his new books for eager fans.

On Tuesday morning, WITN's Carly Swain sat down with Sparks to talk about the new novel and why he is choosing to stick close to home for the launch. Look for that interview on WITN News at Noon and throughout the day.

Target store managers said they expect thousands to filter through the store for a signed copy of the novel on Tuesday.

No personalized signatures are being offered as crews work to keep the line moving steadily.

In February of 2013, Sparks newest film "Safe Haven" debuted in theaters. Parts of the movie were shot in the Wilmington area.

In 2012, Sparks chose to debut his film "The Lucky One" on a historic red carpet at New Bern's Civic Theater, foregoing Hollywood or New York.
