Greene County Middle School was destroyed more than two years ago by a tornado, and is now expected to open on schedule for classes this year.
With three weeks before kids head to school, WITN got an exclusive look at the progress AT Greene County Middle School.
April 16, 2011 a tornado ripped apart the school, and the district had to get creative. Students and staff worked out of 44 mobile classrooms as the new school was constructed.
Tuesday, the school renovations were almost complete. The plan is to open for classes August 26th.
"Greene County Middle School was 20 years old when the tornado came through, and in effect it demolished the school. Now we have another brand new school that will hopefully take us through the next 60 or 70 years in Greene County." said superintendent Patrick Miller.
The new school is built exactly like the old one, except there are strong windows installed and upgrades to the structure that will make it safer for students.
