A statement released by Governor Beverly Perdue's office Wednesday night says there are reports tornadoes touched down in Randolph and Davidson counties causing a fatality in Davidson County.
The statement says more than a dozen structures were damaged in Randolph County, along with an undetermined amount of damage to buildings in Davidson County.
The NC Emergency Management Division is in contact with local officials and stands ready to dispatch any resources needed. Neighboring counties already are assisting through mutual aid agreements.
There are reports of major tornado damage in our state and a possible death at a mobile home park.
The National Weather Service says a tornado was reported just after 6:00 p.m. tonight in Davidson County. Multiple homes were damaged and destroyed on Young Road and Burkhart Roads in Gordontown. Emergency crews responded to reports of people trapped inside homes.
