NC Lawmakers Calling On Feds To Protect Troops From Foreclosure

Two North Carolina congressmen are calling on the U.S. Justice Department to investigate and prosecute any violations of a law designed to protect members of the military from losing their homes while serving the country.

U.S. Reps. Brad Miller and Walter Jones sent a letter Wednesday to Attorney General Eric Holder asking for a probe into possible violations of the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act.

Miller, a Democrat, and Jones, a Republican, say thousands of reviews by a federal agency suggest some banks and mortgage companies may simply be ignoring the law and foreclosing on homes while members of the military are fighting overseas.

In September, the Justice Department asked Congress to stiffen the penalties for lenders who violate laws protecting active duty military personnel from foreclosure.

To ? on Dec 21st, I am a former Marine and I served this country both here in the US and over in Japan, coming back to the states because I had a child I was given a class on how to buy and maintain a house. Those classes are give to Marines and I am sure other Military Members before they are allowed to purchase a house out in town. However, even with those classes, it is not always the knowledge factor, sometimes things just happen, and not only that but given the economics of this days age, peoples houses are being foreclosed on weather they are Military or not. So, please refrain from battering the Military personnel how are out there in harms way fighting just so you can have the right to speak your mind, also keep in mind that you have your first amendment but we have our second!!!

Reminder to self, ignore the trolls, i.e. Bar-low, Lack of Common Sense and Latrine as well as all the other liberal haters. They can't help it, they feel out of the tree of wisdom and lost every bit of intelligence and common sense on their way down. Again, reminder, ignore the trolls!!!

Isn't that what MILITARY HOUSING is for? Military housing that is currently being updated (at Camp Lejeune anyway) to big townhouses, I've been inside them, they're huge compared to where I’m living. Sorry, it is the soldier’s choice to go live out in town (they even get money for it), which means it is their choice to go borrow money from a bank to buy a house just like everyone else. What they need to do is teach these men and women how the run a household, a lot of them are fresh out of high school when they join the military, meaning they don’t know anything at all about how the real world works. BUT, if the banks are not following that law then of course something needs to be done, you just can’t foreclose on someone’s house just because they are in another country fighting the Government’s wars, that’s just sick.

Here is the way it works, pay a fine and go on with the thievery... WASHINGTON | Wed Dec 21, 2011 3:14pm EST WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Bank of America Corp's Countrywide Financial unit agreed on Wednesday to pay a record $335 million to settle civil charges that it discriminated against minority homebuyers, a historic settlement for the Obama administration in the wake of the subprime mortgage morass

Maybe if they'd focused on jobs instead of fighting Obama the economy would be better off and there wouldn't be so many foreclosures. We should do everything we can to look out for those who serve, but this just looks like another political show. Isn't this the guy who re-named the french fries? And has done NOTHING before or since.

So now after this has been going on for a couple of years they are going to do something about it? What are they going to do? Get the troops houses back? I doubt it! Going to put somebody in the banking system in jail? They've been robbing the American people blind for years now and NOT ONE has gone to jail. Just another farce.
