NC Board Of Elections: 2 Counties Had Voting Machine Problems

The State Board of Elections says only 2 counties have reported early voting problems with the touch-screen Ivotronic machines, even though there have been rumors that other counties have had issues.

The Deputy Director says on the first day of voting in New Hanover, 10 machines malfunctioned, and 2 machines in Craven County had issues last week. Voters reported when they tried to vote for the straight Republican ticket, the machine chose the Democratic ticket instead.
However, she says the machines were recalibrated when voters reported the problem, and everyone was able to cast votes of their choice.

The State Board of Elections says someone called the board to report a similar occurrence in Lenoir County Monday, but says it turned the caller had no first-hand knowledge of the problem. Election workers say voter concerns are always taken seriously, but say all touch-screen and paper ballot machines are carefully tested and usually have no problems.

"I for one, personally would like to see the rumors stop, but you know, you're not going to stop individuals from voting and i would never discount anything a voter would say happened to them - that's a very personal experience," said Craven County Board of Elections Director Erin Burridge.

The State Board of Elections says both the touch screen and paper ballot machines are dependable.

Early voting continues this week through Saturday. Election day is November 2nd.

@Anonymous in Craven County: You are a complete fraud. If you select the straight party vote, you are required to review all your choices BEFORE you submit the ballot, if you do not review the ballot it will not get cast. There is NO WAY, I repeat NO WAY for the "machine" to vote for you without you knowing. Again, you people need to remove your tin foil hats and stop spreading lies!

These are not lies I work the polls in Craven county.. I witnessed this happen ! Your first screen asks for strait party voting, so unless you go to the next page to Review and make sure the machine did not malfunction, your vote will be casted as the machines process.. if it changes your vote you will not know !

LOL, step down from your ivory tower, open your eyes. check out drudge. many instances of voter fraud. amazing how NO instances have been reported that claim when trying to vote dem it comes up rep, don't you think? oh, yeah-- nevermind, you don't. you just believe all is well in 3rd world liberal america as they attempt to steal the elections, stomping all over your rights as well as mine. a change is coming, one way or the other. but don't worry, just keep your head in the sand, it'll all be okay. right.....

@Jim: I checked the fox 5 site. There is not a report about what you are saying. You are simply lying and trying to spur fear. As the Fox 5 website says, (and is the same in NC), you can always review who you voted for by looking at the paper log that is printed when you touch the screen, and no vote actually cast until you give final approval. Again, I really wish people would stop selling lies and conspiracy theories just because you are ignorant of how things work.

@Anonymous: Lack of calibration would make the screen register you touching one spot when you actually touched a different spot. Have any of you saying "something fishy is going on" actually gone to a voter education program to learn about the machines, and how they work? Again, stop getting all your information from conspiracy theory websites and think for a second.

I am with Karen and anonymous. I do not trust our present government in any respect. Go to Michelle Malkin's website and you will see that the party of the jackass are actively seeking to subvert the democratic process of the United States. THROW THE BUMS OUT!!

I voted Sunday in Guilford County, selected Republican Straight ticket, then the democrat ticket came up, i cancelled and redid it until the Republican ticket came up. I showed the poll workers when it happened and I called my board of election today to report it. They told me it was calibration problems.

I no longer trust my government -- at any level, and every vote should be verifiable. I would say this to "LOL": I would be very surprised if calibration or the lack of calibration would cause an automatic vote for any particular candidate. Sounds like VERY poor voter machine design or SOMETHING'S FISHY.
