NCSU Mistakenly Posts Data About Children Online

North Carolina State University is warning parents that private information about 1,800 school children from Richmond and Wilson counties was mistakenly posted online.

The school says the information includes names, Social Security numbers and dates of birth of students from Ashley Chapel in Richmond County and Gardners and Wells in Wilson County. The data was gathered from 2003 to 2006 as part of a study on classroom practices.

N.C. State's vice chancellor for information technology says there's no evidence anyone used the information improperly. Marc Hoit says the school sent letters to parents this week advising them of measures to take to monitor credit ratings.

It was difficult to find some parents because the information was gathered several years ago, and Ashley Chapel has since closed.

Do they have my or my children's information? Do they have yours? Rest assured if they were to acquire mine or my child's and then lose it, My child's tuition would be paid in full and it wouldn't be to NCSU! I wonder how they got it and if it was voluntary.

Make the person(s) that released the information pay for the credit monitoring for all the children involved for 20 years. The parents should not have to pay for this. Their only mistake was trusting the school where their children attended with the information in the first place. If the persons who did this, all the way back to the original school have to pay, maybe other will think twice before doing something so stupid. Brings up another question, if people with no SSN can attend public schools, why do children with SSN's have to give them?

Why did the schools give this information out to begin with ? It sounds like a case of incompetence on the part of the schools .Is any information protected anymore?

I wonder how many of these childrens identities have been stolen to supply illegal immigrants false documentation?
