RALEIGH (AP) - North Carolina native and singer-songwriter James Taylor is starring in a television ad for an environmental group urging viewers to challenge efforts to allow natural gas exploration in the state through fracking.
The Natural Resources Defense Council said the 30-second ad began running Thursday on Raleigh-Durham area television stations, as well as on cable TV and online. A group spokesman would not give a price on the ad buy but said the commercial would run for at least two weeks.
The General Assembly told a state regulatory panel to create by this fall rules the industry would have to follow to participate in fracking. Lawmakers still must take further action to allow drilling permits.
Taylor is a council board member.
