A wrongful death lawsuit over the death of an Alamance County middle school student hit with a basketball has been sent to mediation.
The Times-News of Burlington reports (http://bit.ly/190D9Xs ) the mother of 14-year-old Geremy Carter sued Alamance-Burlington Schools after her son died from cardiac arrest during physical education classes at Graham Middle School in May 2011.
The lawsuit says the boy collapsed after being hit in the groin with a basketball. The suit says instead of helping him, two teachers left him on the ground for 20 minutes, dismissing his condition as "man problems."
Lawyers for the school district say the teachers were watching and got the boy help as soon as they discovered the severity of his condition.
A judge ordered mediation in November.
