North Carolina's new Director of the State Bureau of Investigation was sworn in Monday.
Gov. Pat McCrory appointed Bernard Collier II to the position.
It comes as there's a legislative reorganization of North Carolina's law enforcement.
The SBI had been part of the State Attorney General's Office, but it's now an independent agency under the Department of Public Safety.
Gov. McCrory says the move will free the position from political influence.
