McCrory To Help Edenton Celebrate 300th Birthday

North Carolina Gov. Pat. McCrory is helping Edenton celebrate its 300th anniversary.

The Daily Advance of Elizabeth City reported that McCrory will participate in events on Saturday. The day's activities commemorate the formation of North Carolina and the appointment of Charles Eden as governor by Britain's Queen Anne.

An actor in colonial attire will portray Eden, who will meet McCrory. They will go to the Courthouse Green, where McCrory will give the keynote address and present an official proclamation honoring the anniversary.

Eden became governor in 1714, bringing more control to the colony. But he also had a reputation for befriending the pirate Edward Teach, more famously known as Blackbeard.

Edenton served as the first colonial capital until 1743.
