Not Guilty Plea In UNC Student President's Death

HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. (AP) -- One of two men accused of killing the student body president at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill more than three years ago has pleaded not guilty.
Twenty-one-year-old Laurence Alvin Lovette of Durham entered the plea Thursday ahead of his trial, set to begin Nov. 28 in Hillsborough.

Twenty-two-year-old Eve Carson of Athens, Ga., was shot to death on March 5, 2008, after she was abducted and robbed.

Lovette's co-defendant, DeMario Atwater, pleaded guilty last year and was sentenced to life in prison.

Investigators say the men abducted Carson and forced her to withdraw $1,400 from automated teller machines before they shot her five times. Her body was found on a Chapel Hill street.

I can't believe we even asked him for his plea. He represents the scum of this earth. Rid the earth of this vermin immediately. Sounds like he isn't liking his life behind bars.......too bad, thug, suffer!!!

What if she was black and they were white? Jackson and Sharpeton would be all over it. Eye for and eye. Kill them both. People have gotten the same sentence for alot less. As long as scum knows that there is a possibility of getting away with these type of crimes, it wont stop.

My daughter was an acquaintance of Eve. Eve would be the first person to protest such an obvious case of racism as the first poster

Eve Carson. A name that should be remembered for all time. She represents the victims of black on white crime, commited for money alone. They didn't know her. They only wanted her money, yet took her life to keep her from indentifying them. A decent white girl is dead now because a couple of young black men wanted some money....And they get to live!

The headline is fine. If he was aqquited the headline would read "not guilty verdict". As it reads now he entered a plea of not guilty.

Where does witn come up with their titles to articles. This is very misleading because the way the title is wrote he was found not guilty not that he entered a not guilty plea.

You need to change headline to "Man pleads not guilty in UNC President's death." As written, it sounds like he has been acquitted.
