Man Pleads Guilty To Impregnating 11-Year-Old Girl In Brunswick County

BOLIVIA, N.C. (AP) -- The Brunswick County district attorney says a man in the United States illegally has pleaded guilty to charges that he had sex with an 11-year-old girl, who became pregnant.

District Attorney Jon David said in a news release that 34-year-old Luis Perez-Valencia pleaded guilty Monday in Brunswick County Superior Court for having sex with the girl from Leland in 2011. He was charged with having sex with the girl twice and attempting to have sex with her once.

Assistant District Attorney Meredith Everhart said in court that DNA tests showed Perez-Valencia is the father of the girl's child.

Judge Thomas Lock sentenced him to about 16 to 20 years in prison. Perez-Valencia will be deported after he serves his sentence.
