A man convicted of killing the University of North Carolina student body president in 2008 wants his trial in the death of a Duke University graduate student moved out of Durham.
Attorneys for Laurence Lovette say their client can't get a fair trial there on charges he killed Abhijit Mahato because of publicity.
In June, Lovette was sentenced to life in prison for the death of Eve Carson. Lovette's attorney says the conviction in Carson's death is mentioned in each media story about the Mahato case.
Lovette was in court Friday so attorneys could discuss upcoming hearing dates and deadlines. A motions hearing is scheduled for the week of Oct. 7.
