Largest Marine Training Exercise On East Coast Underway At Camp Lejeune

The largest Marine training exercise on the east coast continued Wednesday at Camp Lejeune with the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing practicing multiple training techniques.

The exercise is known as "Mailed Fist." This is the second year for the training. In years prior Marines from the east would travel to the west coast for similar training.

A Corba attack chopper fired at a target on a training field at Camp Lejeune, while part of their team stood by in a tower coordinating the aerial assault. Marines also used CH-35E Super Stallion helicopters to rapidly refuel tanks, demonstrating their ability to bring vital supplies to a harsh environment.

Captain Ken Palmer with 2nd says these training exercises help them sort out kinks in a safe environment. "It's all about safely accomplishing missions so using a timeline and they have simulated airthreats out there today so they're going to use mortars to suppress that air threat while the rotar wing comes in and attacks the target."

Exercises have been taking place in the since Monday and will continue in our state and South Carolina through the end of the week.
