A man is in jail after police say he led them on a high speed chase Wednesday night, topping speeds over 100 miles per hour.
Kinston police Sgt. John Stroud said 27-year-old Thomas Banks was driving his car on West Vernon Avenue around 8 p.m. Wednesday night when he passed an officer and began speeding.
Police said as the officer tried to pull Banks over, Banks kept speeding. The chase continued, officials said, as he flew down West Vernon and Highway 258 toward Snow Hill.
At that point, authorities said Bank's speed topped out at about 103 miles per hour.
The chase ended when Banks ran out of gas just south of Snow Hill, according to Sgt. Stroud.
Banks was arrested and charged with felony fleeing to elude police. Officials said he also had one outstanding warrant for failure to show up in court on an expired tags charge.
Banks is being held at the Lenoir County Sheriff's Jail under a $10,000 bond.
