Holiday Travel Underway

It's the eve of Christmas Eve, and the holiday travel rush begins today.

AAA estimates nearly 92-million people will hit the road, hop on a train or catch a plane to visit family and friends. That's a nearly one and a half percent increase over last year.

And the number of Americans driving to their holiday destinations is up more than two-percent this year, while the number of air travelers is down one-percent. The Airline Industry's Trade Group estimates just over 43-million people will be flying, compared to more than 83-million on the highways and byways. AAA Carolinas expects 2.4 million North Carolinians to travel 50 miles or more for the holidays.

While gas prices in North Carolina have dropped over recent weeks, it's going to cost you more than last year. Regular gas is averaging 22-cents more in 2010. The current average price for regular gas in our state is $3.84. For a check of current gas prices in North Carolina, click here
