Highway Patrol Says 7 Killed In Holiday Wrecks

The N.C. Highway Patrol says seven people were killed in traffic accidents during the Fourth of July holiday weekend, half the number that died in 2013. That includes one fatal accident in Eastern Carolina on Conetoe Road a few miles west of Bethel.

The holiday weekend began at 6 p.m. on Thursday, July 3, and ended at midnight, Sunday, July 6. Last year, 14 people died in the period between July 3-7.

A statement from the N.C. Department of Public Safety said troopers investigated seven collisions that resulted in the seven deaths.
