Hendersonville Teen Charged With Leaving Dead Baby In Trash

A 17-year-old Henderson County girl is charged with leaving her dead newborn in a grocery store trash can.

The Hendersonville teenager was charged Tuesday with failing to report a death and concealing the death of a child. She's currently being held in the Henderson County jail on a $50,000 bond.

A call to Sean Devereux, her Asheville-based attorney, wasn't immediately returned Wednesday.

Investigators say the girl gave birth at her home in August, and brought the infant to a Bi-Lo grocery store. Employees at the store found the child's body in the trash bin of a restroom.

Police say they were able to identify the girl based on surveillance camera footage from the store, which showed her entering with a large bag and leaving without it.

WHERE IS THE MURDER CHARGE? SHE BASICALLY ONLY GETS CHARGED WITH THROWING AWAY A INFANT?!?! WHERE IS THE REAL JUSTICE THESE DAYS. WHETHER SHE IS 17 OR 50 THERE IS NO EXCUSE NO MATTER HOW SORRY THAT MOTHER WAS FOR THAT KIND OF ACT. SHE SHOULD BE SENT TO PRISON FOR LIFE IF NOT PUT ON DEATH ROW THAT'S JUST CRUEL AND INHUMANE. AND WHY HASN'T HER NAME BEEN RELEASED???

very concerned for this new generation...how can you possibly think it is okay to discard a dead baby in a trash can then go on about your daily life as if nothing happened? if this is the mentality of this generation then i hate to see what our nation will be like in 20 years! common sense, which is what todays youth lack, should come into play and say, hey i think it may be wrong or even grossly sick to leave my dead child in the trash can for someone else to find! why not take the baby at least to the hospital or to some adult that can help you! and yes, she does deserve jail time because obviously she was okay with this...she did it last year!

what is with people throwing their babies in a dumpster or trash can??? dont you think you can do better than that? if you dont want your baby, you can take it to the hospital or fire dept. if your baby dies, for GODS sake call an ambulance. what does that say about someone, to defile their childs body by putting it in the trash!

Hey, if evolution is true and there is no God, then what's the problem here? Society wants to have science as a god, but doesn't seem to like the logical outcome of that. Can't have it both ways.

This brings to attention that North Carolina has a law on the book allowing for Safe Surrender of newborns if a mom feels overwhelmed. It is unfortunate that this young lady did not know about her options.

Who says she did not know? all she was trying to do was get rid of a baby. also safe surrender is for live babies. she should have been at some ones abortion clinic.
