Greensboro Police: 102-Year-Old Man Shot Wife, Killed Himself

GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) -- Police in Greensboro say a 102-year-old man shot and wounded his 84-year-old wife before killing himself.

Authorities said in a statement that officers responded to a report of shots being fired at a home on the northeast side of the city around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday. When they arrived, they found Theodore Delano Larkin Jr. dead at the scene of a self-inflicted gunshot. Police said Gloria Laurette Larkin was suffering from gunshot wounds, and was taken by ambulance to Moses Cone Hospital where her condition is described as non-life threatening.

Investigators have not determined a motive for the shooting and are continuing to look into the incident.

This is such a wild story. My grandmother just passed at the ripe old age of 108. It's interesting how the 'super' elderly view life. I used to tell her that she just needed to make it to 110...... and her response? In a comedic tone she would say...... "Lord, I hope not!". Rest in peace old soul.

There was an elderly couple in Windsor whose ending sounds much like this case. And that husband and wife were devoted to eachother, and loved everyone around them as well. He just felt it was past time for them to go, as they were in very bad health. I do hope that those who cared about this Greensboro couple can find some peace about their loss. God be with them..

His wife has a lot to deal with. Not only being shot by her now late husband... but watching him kill himself! How very sad...

If the planet were "God forsaken" there wouldn't be any life on it.

That made absolutely no sense. Are you going to tell us that you arrived on the Mother Ship?

You can pray for the wife... but praying for him is pointless, since he died already.

We also don't know that they were "doing fine living on their own". Nobody knows what their health or financial state was. Maybe it was despair.

Why assume this man was angry? Why say the children should have taken the guns away? Who even knows that this couple had any kids or grandkids. We can't assume! For all you people know this could have been a mercy killing and act of love. It happens more often than not! Just saying...

Guns don't kill people, people kill people. With or without a gun or other weapon, if a person wants to injure or kill another person, they will. Where there's a will, there's a way.
