Gov. Perdue In Outer Banks To Talk Pre-Kindergarten Plans

Gov. Beverly Perdue is visiting the Outer Banks to boost a new front in her ongoing contest with legislative Republicans over education spending.

The Democratic governor visits a Manteo elementary school Monday to talk about the North Carolina Pre-Kindergarten Program.

Perdue last week issued an executive order that pre-kindergarten education be offered to all eligible 4-year-olds while maintaining existing academic standards. A state judge last month said the state must offer the program for at-risk kids as part of its duty to provide a good, basic education.

Neither Perdue nor the judge said how the state would pay for a potential flood of thousands of children.

Republican lawmakers say the pressure threatens to disrupt the state budget.

So we just celebrated the 10 year anniversary of the NC lottery. Where is that money why are educational funds being cut. Do we plan on having a future for NC kids or do we just plan to import talent? Where is the money going.

The part I like the best is this...if you are a healthy 4 year old with no speech problems and are right on target with physical and mental growth, and your parents are above the income level, you can go to pre-k if they have room for you, but your parents have to pay $250 per month for you to attend. Since when are children's parents required to pay additional money for them to attend public school. Don't you think they pay enough taxes. I don't know about other places, but in HYDE COUNTY kids will go free or pay $250. It is my opinion, if funds will be paid, then this becomes private enterprise and should be moved from the school property to private property.

It isn't working, stop throwing good money at it. Let's make the parents step up and be parents and stop acting as if the government is suppose to fix everything.

everyone look outside at the skies this afternoon and see the flying monkies flying back to the castle with their leader. Maybe someone can find a bucket of water to throw on her.

I don`t know, but there was no mention of her "luncheon" at one of the most expensive restaurants on the OBX, of this I have first hand knowledge.

maybe we should just start taking care of the babies in the nursery at the hospital and stop at age 45 or when they get out of jail the first time. The government can not raise your children.. Be responsible parents like we used to be.
