Gay Marriage Ban Supporters Launch Effort

Supporters of a constitutional question on May's ballot in North Carolina say the amendment is needed to protect traditional marriage from those who want to expand what is legal in the state.

The group "Vote FOR Marriage NC" kicked off its campaign Monday.

They want voters to approve a constitutional amendment to make clear marriage is only between a man and a woman.

State law already makes that distinction, but coalition chairwoman Tami Fitzgerald says an amendment would protect marriage from activist judges and lawmakers who want to allow gay marriage.

The amendment also would prevent the state from sanctioning civil unions or domestic partnerships.

Vote FOR Marriage NC said it would work on support in churches.

Amendment opponents kicked off their campaign last week.

Proverbs 10:12 'Hatred stirs up dissension, but love covers over all wrongs.' Let he who is without sin cast the first stone. Maybe we should be looking in the mirror throwing rocks at ourselves instead of each other. Consenting adults of any gender couple variations warrant equality of marriage rights in this country.

These people are obsessed with trying to think they are normal and want to force that belief on the majority who are normal. Get over it; you are different, very different. Who are you to impose your immorality on us?

I'm tired of hearing the whole "if we let gay people get married then perverted men are going to want to marry little girls and animals" junk. If it isn't a consensual relationship, then obviously it can't happen. Age of consent wouldn't be changed because a woman marries another woman.

The argument is just because you "love" each other doesn't necessarily convey the "right" to be recognized by our government as "married". Still you claim it is because of healthcare at work, tax deductions, retirement benefits. I know many loving relatives living together who would benefit from getting married, too. They love each other; what's the difference. Only ONE difference, y'all are having sexual relations. Therefore, it reverts to your acts you desire.

Another waste of time amendment that is not needed. I am sure it will pass though . Its amazing to me how people will march for the rights of the unborn while cutting off much needed funding to feed poor and yes, hungry children right here in the good ol'usa. Also those same folks worry so about a few gay folks. Let me ask ya'll this? Why do any of us have to get permission from the govt. to get married? It seems to me that is a decision between you and your betrothed and your church if you choose to have a church wedding no matter who your betrothed is. This is just this straight guys opinion

This Amendment is necessary to keep judges from forcing individuals and churches from having to accept homosexual "marriage" against their personal beliefs. This has nothing to due with equality and everything to do with attacks on peoples religion and morality. After homosexual marriage became legal in Europe it also became illegal to teach that homosexuality is a sin. Those laws are on the books and very easy to find on the internet.

Dave, churches are private organizations. They don't have to accept or perform gay marriages if they choose not to. Also, any church can teach anything they want. That's why Mormon's are still able to teach that black people are "cursed" and get away with it. This will not change what happens in your church.

That is because homosexuality is not a sin in all religions. Nobody wants to tell religions what to do... even if this bill doesn't pass, churches still don't have to marry gay people, or even accept them in their church. That's the awesome thing about this state. All we're asking for is the tax breaks that heterosexual couples get, visitation rights when our partners are in the hospital and the right to put both loving parents' names on our children's birth certificates. Seriously, if your church doesn't want us, then we will probably join one that does. We don't want to go where we are hated. =)

Good! Go where you are wanted and don't worry about it. And I'll throw it back at you. Why force the government to accept your unnatural behavior? You can dispute it's unnatural, but facts are facts. Go to YOUR church or start your OWN religion and marry in YOUR church. What gives you the right to impose your immorality on us the normal people. Fact is what we do is NORMAL, what you do is abnormal.

Nobody is forcing anything on you. What? Are you scared that you won't be able to control your "unnatural desires" when it becomes legal or something? I have to wonder why what other people do in their bedroom is of any concern to other people. Also, do you think gay couples are just going to turn straight if this law fails to pass?

People should stop trying to control other people's lives. This is a dumb issue that our leaders shouldn't spend a second of thought on. I think the economy and multiple wars should be their main concern.

No, cut the education budget and start TEACHING instead of spending. You know, that thing called teaching (like knowledge and information) that is supposed to be the purpose of school. Just a small part in your budget and dollars obsessed mind.

The only reason they are even talking abou it is because the homosexuals people are pushing to get gay marriage approved. They have to address it because the issue is being raised. Place the blame where it belongs if you don;t want to hear about it.

You guys can ban it all you want. I'm marrying my girlfriend this may in DC. Guess what! I'm going to live in North Carolina... That's right! We'll be your neighbors! Don't worry though- we are very nice people and we won't push what folks call our "lifestyle choice" off on your children. We just want to be happy and we're thankful we live in a country where, though we are not recognized as equal, at least we don't get killed for being in love.

There never really has been a separation because religious groups lobby politicians to pass their adjendas and the politicians will gladly accept the gifts and the money.
