Funeral Packed For 5 Children Killed In Guilford County Family Massacre

PLEASANT GARDEN, N.C. (AP) -- Hundreds filled the sanctuary of a Guilford County church to join a family as it buried five children killed in what investigators are describing as a family massacre.

So many children, teenagers and teachers attended the funeral on Friday at Pleasant Garden Baptist Church that the overflow crowd had to sit in the gym of the Family Life Center to watch a live video feed.

The funeral was held for the five children between 8 and 17 gunned down in a shooting rampage by 36-year-old Mary Ann Holder.

Officers say Holder apparently shot one of her sons and three other children while they slept at her Pleasant Garden home, shot and wounded her married former lover, then killed her younger son. Holder then killed herself.

How sad, but how could she kill her own family, and leave her lover to live...

she wanted to punish him, probably. some people see others as things, pawns, a proverbial ace up the sleeve, whatever. what a psycho.

This is the saddest story of the season. I can offer two reasons for her incomprehensible behavior; blind rage plus crime of passion. Not a good combination, let alone one without the other. More facts may come forth; maybe she was on one of the anti-depressants known to cause erratic behavior; some meds. do that to people. I just pray for God to Bless the children.

yeah thats possible--if so, let it be a message to anyone with loved ones on meds--just because they are medicated doesnt mean everythings fine. people can become tolerant to their medication, making it less effective, or when are switched to medication may have adverse reactions. usually this takes 6-8 weeks. keep an eye (respectfully) on your loved ones who take psychotropic meds. whatever the case, this woman did not see the difference between the peoples lives whom she took and her own--they were all part of HER world, not individuals with their own lives. scary that people who think this way walk among us.

It says that the funeral was for 5 children. I hope the woman that murdered these children was not included in that funeral for her burial. I also hope the family had enough respect for the children not to bury her near them. She doesn't deserve it. God Bless all of them. Including her. There is certainly no man worth doing what she did.

I've met and known some murderers and victims in my time. It was always about a love triangle, an affair, or a just plain bad woman. Always has been a man killing another man. A good woman will make you, and a bad one will break you. One of my favorite sayings that I made up.

You've already answered your own question. There is a difference between being suicidal and being homicidal. If she killed others, she was more than suicidal. You might as well ask why the sun rises. She was obviously ill.

it was more of a rhetorical question...alot of murder suicides are dealing with revenge (think medea)--how to hurt someone the most-kill their child, kill yourself, blame it on them, etc.. or its a 'better off' scenario (research personality disorders)--as in theyll be better off dead than to live through this, etc.. yeah, i know WHY its done, maybe i shouldve said it in a more insensitve way; if youre gonna kill yourself, when youre dead you wont have the satisfaction of knowing how others suffer, so just take yourself out and leave everyone else alone. of course ive had suicidal family members so i wouldnt ever actually say that to someone. it just makes me mad when suicidal disturbed (and sorry, totally selfish) people commit the ultimate painful act of taking innocent lives along with them.

I so agree with the last comment if you wanna kill yourself do it but why take five innocent kids that had nothing to do with this love affair along with you. Clearly her mind was sick and the sad part is in Hell she will open her eyes for eternity.

this is just so awful and senselses. i know the woman was disturbed, but if people want to commit suicide, why must they take others along with them?
