Flags Lowered At NC Buildings Following Tornadoes

U.S. and North Carolina flags will be placed at half-staff for the remainder of the work week at state government and university buildings after last weekend's deadly tornadoes in the state.

Gov. Beverly Perdue directed officials to lower the flags starting Tuesday morning through sunset Thursday. Good Friday is a state holiday.

State Administration Department Secretary Moses Carey says the flag-lowering is a tribute to the 21 people who died in the storms and emergency responders who've prevented additional deaths and injuries.
