FEDS: Drug Operation Brought 1,000 Kilos Of Coke To Eastern Carolina

Federal authorities say two men who ran a drug operation responsible for bringing in hundreds of kilos of cocaine into Eastern Carolina counties are headed to prison.

U.S. Attorney Thomas Walker announced today in Greenville that Renato Torres-Eguino received a sentence of almost 20 years, while co-defendant Jorge Acosta-Muro was sentenced to 22-1/2 years in prison.

The two were indicted by a federal grand jury last October and they pleaded guilty to conspiring to distribute cocaine in December. The feds say from 2001 to 2011, Torres-Eguino was responsible for delivering approximately 1,000 kilos of cocaine to Eastern Carolina.

Investigators say Torres-Eguino, who lived in Arizona, delivered monthly multi-kilo shipments to Sergio Estupinan in Richmond. They say Estupinan would then deliver the cocaine to Acosta-Muro, who lived in Pamlico County. The feds say the coke would end up in Pitt, Pamlico, Craven, Beaufort and Lenoir counties.

The investigation known as Operation "No Quarter" was designed to attack the infrastructure of the Mexican Drug Trafficking Organizations (DTO), including those of the Los Zetas, La Familia, Gulf and Sinaloa drug cartels, operating not only in the Eastern District of North Carolina, but throughout North Carolina, the United States and Mexico.

As part of this ongoing investigation, authorities say over 90 people have been indicted is federal and state courts. They say $1.5 million in cash, 127 kilos of cocaine with a street value of $3.8 million dollars, 41 pounds of crystal methamphetamine with a street value of $650,000, 160 lbs of marijuana with a street value of $170,000, 32 grams of heroin, 35 firearms and 35 real properties valued at $1.5 million were seized by law enforcement authorities.
