People who stayed on Hatteras Island during Hurricane Irene are getting limited, utility-generated power back.
Kathryn Bryan of the emergency management agency for Dare County said Tuesday that two massive generators are supplying "spotty" electrical service to people in the villages of Rodanthe, Salvo and Waves. She says people on the island are being asked to limit their power use between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m.
Hatteras Island is getting supplies via ferry because the storm carved four breaches into Highway 12. Bryan says so far only people with special medical needs or scheduled for surgeries have been transported off.
She says no injuries from the storm have been reported.
Bryan says there may be information out Wednesday about residents who left Hatteras being able to return to the island.
