Chimney Rock Park will be closing soon for a month so crews can repair the road leading to the state park in Rutherford County.
Park officials told the Citizen-Times of Asheville (http://avlne.ws/1cPxF6s) that the park's exact closing date isn't known, but it will be before the end of January.
Crews are repairing part of the road that failed in early May because of heavy rains and build a new retaining wall to protect the road. Park Superintendent James Ledgerwood says pauses for snow likely mean the park will be closed for about a month until the project is finished.
Ledgerwood says officials chose winter because it was the least visited time for the park, known for its incredible views from the top of its 315-foot tall boulder.
