Burlington Residents Say Church Services Are Too Noisy

Some residents in Burlington are complaining to the city about what they say is a church making some not-so-joyful noise.

The Times-News of Burlington reports that neighbors of the Faith Builders International Church brought their complaints to the city council this week.

They say the noise of singing and musical instruments happens four to seven days a week, sometimes as late as 11:30 p.m.

Burlington Police Capt. Eric Kerns says police have responded to 43 noise complaints about the church since October. Some residents told council members they're moving to quieter neighborhoods.

The church's pastor could not be immediately reached for comment. But Kerns says the church has built a noise-reducing partition around its drum set in hopes of making worship services quieter.

I think start church earlier so that church can end before most people's bedtimes... say around 9pm Most towns/cities have noise ordiances that say you can't be loud after a specific time unfortunately for churches that goes for everyone... but before bedtime there is not much you can say...

The Raleigh Police Dept. Attempted to pull his gun and pepper spray on us, because the neighbors complained. The church was there when they moved in their homes, now the good white folks want the church out! Where is the 1st amendment, where is freedom to worship, where is America? What's next? It will be against the law to pray before boarding a plane?

Wah wah wah. Let's complain about something else now. This nation has turned into a nation of whiners and moochers.

This article says 43 complaints have been made. If they were found to be legit wouldn't citations have been issued? It says nothing about that. Makes me wonder what is really going on.

A friend had a church where they would stay late and pretty much do what they wanted to do. Yet, the church was not near a residential area nor did they get that loud and disturb anyone. The city needs to address the issue if they are disturbing the peace. That's what lawyers are for.

I will worship the Lord as I please. Many of you drive down the roads with your cars thumping and bumping, cursing and screaming and everything else... never a word about the disrespectful noise there... You come down the road and rattle the windows of the houses you pass. Your bass-beating radios on full blast. Never a word of respect. God doesn't like it when people mess with His children. Say what you want.... This is THE WORD.... God and HIS people will have the last laugh... all the way to the Heavens above whilst booming, praising, clapping, worshiping, singing, dancing, etc.... THE DEVIL IS A LIAR!! PRAISE GOD!! THANK YOU, JESUS!! WOOO-HOOOOOOO!!!!

I think that some people would argue the sky ain't blue, it's Carolina blue just for the heck of it. Praising the Lord is fine, just do it with respect. All this rolling in the aisles, jumping up and down and having a convulsion is over reaction...just like you've done with your reply.

Making a joyful noise is fine; worshiping the Lord is great. Going overboard with shouting, falling down, speaking gibberish, waving hands, or otherwise making a public scene, does not make a person a 'saint', and I doubt our true Christ wants his people to act in a way that puts the 'spotlight' on them, instead of HIM.

Simple solution for the church and all you condoning their way fo worship till the wee hours of the night. Praise and worship session from 7-9pm....after that meditation, pray, or Bible study till you're ready to go home. Problems anyone???

if they want to remain by a church becuase they think crime is down...they can move to cherry run road in washington. Right where robersonville road intersects. You can live on top of that Tranter's creek church and wont hear a peep!!!!

I don't remember seeing anything about them remaining a church because they think crime is down. All of us christians know crime is up and Satan will continue trying to keep it that way. And he will succeed until Jesus returns. Only then will crime be gone. He says if you're not for Him you are against Him. Time is growing short. Heaven or Hell ... it's entirely up to each one of us.

Slip some rattlesnakes in the door at 9PM. Then they can play with snakes like some folks still do in Appalachchia.

Best add the following. Some do get bitten and die. Some survive. The govt. could not stop them from snake handling but you won't find me there.
