Baseball Great Strawberry Speaks At Church

Former professional baseball star Darryl Strawberry is in North Carolina to describe how faith helped him overcome the drug abuse that damaged his career and life.

The Charlotte Observer reports that Strawberry is speaking Sunday at three services for Freedom House Church.

The church meets at Stoney Creek Elementary School and those in attendance may submit questions by text message for Strawberry and his wife Tracy.

Freedom House Pastor Troy Maxwell will interview the Strawberrys during the church services.

Strawberry played for the New York Mets, Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees. He was known for his towering homeruns and clutch hitting in the post-season.

He is a two-time cancer survivor and founded The Darryl Strawberry Foundation, which works for people with autism.
