North Carolina Democrats are gathering with weeks to go before this fall's elections.
The state's Democratic Party holds its convention in Fayetteville starting Saturday and 1,000 delegates are expected to attend. The convention is held every other year. New Bern held the last one in 2008.
The event is seen as a time for the party to prepare for November's state and federal elections, adopt policy positions and network with the party's influential members.
The convention's Saturday activities include training sessions on how to recruit volunteers, run telephone banks and reach out to women.
The party's fundraising dinner is Saturday night, followed by an executive committee meeting Sunday.
