NC Teen Charged With Killing His Mother

A 19-year-old North Carolina man has been charged with killing his mother and setting fire to the mobile home they shared.

Multiple media outlets reported that Johnathon Gray of Fayetteville was arrested Saturday morning and charged with murder and arson. He was being held in the Cumberland County jail. A jail officer said Sunday there was no information on whether Gray has an attorney.

Cumberland County sheriff's spokeswoman Debbie Tanna says firefighters discovered the body of 42-year-old Barbara Towery when they responded to a fire at the home. Tanna says Towery appears to have died from blows to the upper part of her body, but officials were awaiting autopsy results.

I was blessed enough to have been friends with Miss Barbara Towery. And I also knew her son Jonathan.I too am very shocked that he did this.I met Barbara about ten years ago.She was a wonderful person amd I know that she loved her sons very much.I was under the impression that they had a good realationship and never once heard them even have one agrument. It is unfair for people to slander someone that they dont even know...have never met...and most of all...ISNT HERE TO DEFEND THEMSELVES!!!This is very tragic people but let's leave the judging to god.I love you Barbara and I will never understand what happened or why but I know that you are in a better place.

I knew this kid. He sat behind me in all of my homerooms in high school. This is unlike him to kill someone AT ALL. He was the nicest person I knew. He even hated when people cursed around him. I heard that his mother was a drug addict and he disliked her. He's very remorseful now and is even on suicide watch. I'm still shocked that he would do something like this. At least he confessed about what he did and didn't lie. It's awful he resorted to killing his mom. :( We all need to pray for him and his family.

Nice and plain as LEW stated it!! Parents have no rights anymore...The government allowed children to have more rights than parents. No punishing anymore means parents let their children go wild. They don't behave, don't work and want things free more than than the illegals..(at least most illegals work) Parents take back CONTROL! Don't abuse them but love them and teach them morals! Make them hard workers and kind people because they are the future! Hope and pray this kid just did not have a mean spell, we never know what goes on behind closed doors! There is alot of stress in todays world but still does'nt justify taking a life!

Crabbie Pattie, that comment has no place here. Sounds like you are condoning a murder. It doesn't matter what the mom did. Maybe she didn't do anything. Maybe the kid just felt like killing. Why do people up and kill stray animals that don't do anything?

Folks, his motive has not been disclosed yet. Do not assume the 'why' part until he gives it up.

I was sexually abused at a very young age by my dad. I still can not see killing him for ruining my life like he did. Maybe I am the one that is crazy but I just can not see taking another human's life.

WoW... I understand that some parents don't treat thier children the way they should, but killing them its going to solve anything. Its just going to make the childs life worse than it was. That is if thats the case at all... God Bless the Family!!!

To Anonymous, even if the boy was abused, that did'nt give him the right to kill his own mother. Something here is not right and it's devistating to know things like this come out.
