Services Set For Greenville Woman Found Dead In Cape Fear River

Memorial services have been announced for Joanne Dacuno of Greenville. She was found in the Cape Fear River in Wilmington on Sunday.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service in Snow Hill. Interment will follow at the Rainbow Cemetery.

A visitation is planned for Friday from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Wilmington Police say they will not be able to make a final determination on Dacuno's death until toxicology tests come back.

Previous Story

Wilmington police say drowning is the apparent cause of death for a Greenville woman who was found in the Cape Fear River on Sunday.

An autopsy was performed Tuesday on the body of Joanne Dacuno. Police say there was no trauma found on the body, nor were there any obvious signs of foul play, according to the autopsy.

Dacuno was last heard from early Saturday morning when she used her cell phone. Base on witness accounts, police have determined that the woman was intoxicated that morning. Around 7:30 a.m. a couple walking along the river found the victim's purse.

A final determination on her cause of death won't be available until toxicology results come back.

Previous Story

Authorities say the person who was found dead in the Cape Fear River Sunday was from Greenville.

Wilmington Police Monday identified the woman as 26-year-old Joanne Fostanes Dacuno of Greenville. Her body was found around 12:50 p.m. across from the Wilmington Riverside Hilton.

An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.

A fact that is not being mentioned is that Joanne worked nights. A 12 hour night shift. So it was not unusual for her to be awake at 7:00-7:30 in the morning. The judgement that is being passed about her being out-and-about at that time of day is obviously without knowledge of her normal sleep times.

This bothers me so bad. This story does not make sense and I really hate when people like you "citizen" try to chalk it up to oh she got so drunk she ended up dead in the river. It seems you are just wanting to prove some point about drinking well....let's get past that and figure out what really happened. Sure that is the simplist conclusion and probably the most convenient. However, It was between 6-7 am that she used her phone. I would assume she could have sobered up some by this point and if not who was she drinking with or where was she getting the alcohol? If she just fell in the would think her pocket book would have still been on her arm not laying down somewhere. I am sure her friends were drunk on friday night also. Saturday morning however, they should have been sober and wondering where there friend was. Maybe she was out their alone, but why? Maybe I am wrong for posting all these questions but the family deserves to know.

I also have only met her a few times but on each occassions I remember her vibrant laugh and cheerful smile that was just like her mothers. She brought a certain energy to the room and so many people loved her. She had friends who would have been there for her. No one understands the circumstances of how she ended up in the water that night. We are all only in this world for a short time. Time to touch the hearts, make the memories and enjoy the moments. We each write a story of who we were in life. It appears she has touched many hearts, made many memories all while enjoying those moments and her death has woke up alot of people to how short life can be. I pray the family can find comfort knowing their is a greater plan that does not always make sense but always has it's purpose. May Joanne be remembered as a beautiful person inside and out.

I only met Joanne once or twice, but I knew her mom from working at Food Lion. She was a very sweet person just like her mom. Her mom was very proud of her accomplishments. For those of you who don't know what to be saying, just keep your mouth closed. Many people drink on occassion, that's no reason to bash a person. To Anna and the rest of Joanne's family, may God be with you and give you strength during the lost of your loved one. Sound like Joanne had alot of people that knew her to be a sweet and pleasant person. Hold on to that, and know that you did a good job raising a beutiful person.

RIP JOANNE. I spoke to you one on one only once in my life. You were jogging and walking in the neighborhood. We were talking about nursing and school. I guess you did make it into nursing school and were a nurse! Nurses are angels, you were one much before, now you can look down on all that you love and help them along. You will be missed by all that knew you. You are a wonderful person..Sorry to your family, friends, and anyone that you shared your life with.

I cant believe what some people will comment. The comments posted by Citizen-u should be ASHAMED of Yourself!!! to write such harsh word in such a tragic time for a family who is so wonderful and is going through the most difficult time anyone ever goes through. Alot of people party and consume alcohol and if she was drinking that doesnt mean thats what caused her death. PLEASE EVERYBODY-IF YOU HAVE NOTHING GOOD TO SAY KEEP YOUR THOUGHTS TO YOURSELF AND HAVE RESPECT FOR THE GRIEVING FAMILY AND FRIENDS.

Those people who didn't know joanne can't pass judgement, maybe she liked to drink, but that doesn't change the fact that nothing is adding up. Someone out there knows what happened. Her personal life was and still should be her business, people should focus on the fact a good person is gone way to early, and someone should dig deeper into the story to find out what REALLY HAPPENED.Maybe she did drown, but did anyone else play a part in it? Someone should have at least made an attempt to contact her, since it was hours since someone heard from her.RIP jOANNE
