An uptick in travel is expected this holiday weekend as experts from Triple-A of the Carolinas say travel demand has increased along with consumer confidence.
Gas prices are also more stable compared to last year.
Experts say nearly 850,000 North Carolinians will travel on our highways this weekend. Overall, experts say travel will increase 12 percent.
Troopers also say they will be ramping up patrols and checkpoints this weekend. They say speeding is a major contributor to collisions, but add that collisions caused by distracted drivers is close behind.
Experts say more people are taking an extended holiday vacation this year when compared to last.
