Humpback Whales Spotted Off NC Coast Friday

The U.S. Coast Guard received a report of two Humpback Whales in the Beaufort Inlet in Carteret County Friday morning.

Researchers say that a number of things could be driving the whales to our shores, but only for a temporary home.

Experts say Humpbacks have been seen quite a bit over the past few months in the Bogue and Shackleford Banks areas.

Researcher Keith Rittmaster says it's not too uncommon to see Humpbacks or Right Whales this time of year. But he says they are more than likely migrating north from their breeding ground south of our shores to their feeding grounds in Maine.
