It's a day they've been working towards for years. Thousands of ECU students put on their caps and gowns and graduated from the university Friday morning.
University of North Carolina President, Erskine Bowles, was the speaker at the commencement at Dowdy-Ficklin Stadium.
One of the 3,400 graduates is 48 year-old mom April Moore. She told WITN this was a personal goal of hers and she's got some advice for potential graduates. "I just want to encourage all the individuals out here, it's never to late, age doesn't matter, you can always continue your education, and especially for our youth of today, just don't stop at your high school diploma...continue on, and excel to your highest level."
Graduation festivities will continue through the weekend with departments holding individual ceremonies as well.
