NC Troops Just Back From Haiti Head To Afghanistan

Paratroopers from Fort Bragg who recently returned from Haiti are now headed to Afghanistan.

Army officials say about 800 paratroopers from the 82nd Airborne Division's 1st Battalion, 325th Airborne Infantry Regiment received orders Thursday to deploy in May to central Asia.

The soldiers are part of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, which is part of a reserve of troops that policy makers can call on in an emergency.

Most recently, the 2nd Brigade was sent to Haiti to help in recovery efforts after a January earthquake killed an estimated 200,000 people.

In Afghanistan, the battalion will work with Afghan National Security Forces and help improve security.

This is the ninth deployment for a 2nd Brigade Combat Team unit since September 11, 2001.
