Tax Deadline Looms

Efforts to find tax procrastinators in Beaufort County on the day before the tax deadline came up empty.

While last minute filers are certainly out there, everyone we talked with Wednesday said they had already filed their taxes and we glad they didn't have to worry about the last minute rush.

There are still quite a few people who haven't filed. According to statistics through April 2nd, the IRS is still waiting on about 50-million tax returns it expects this year.

If you're one of those who still have to file and will be mailing your return late Thursday you could be in for a long drive.

Post offices in the east will close at normal times on tax night which is 5:00 pm. You'll have to head to Raleigh or Durham to find post offices that will be open after 5:00 PM.

You can also efile federal taxes online but that deadline is also Thursday.
