Being on unemployment can be stressful enough, but imagine not getting your payments. That's going on with a lot of people these days.
Valerie Kea was at the Greenville Employment Security Commission Office Monday trying to figure out what's going on with her benefits. She lost her machine operator job in 2007 when it moved overseas. She's been collecting unemployment for displaced workers while she goes back to school and learns a new trade, but says she hasn't received a check since February 16th.
ESC officials say there's a reason for the delay recipients are experiencing. ESC Region five manager Patsy Jones says,
"Due to the unprecedented times that we currently find ourselves in, with extensions of unemployment extensions, as we move forward with extensions we find ourselves doing the best to pay benefits. We have seen some, a few overpayments, those are being corrected very quickly within a week, so I would say the system is working fairly well."
Jones says she'll take a look into Kea's situation and try and figure out the issue as soon as possible. Until then, Kea is left to keep on waiting.
