Primary Opponent For Senator Burr

North Carolina Senator Richard Burr will have some competition in the Republican primary for his seat.

Asheboro City Council member Eddie Burks filed his paperwork Monday to get on the ballot as a GOP candidate for the U.S. Senate. Burks runs a small-business advertising firm and was mayor of Franklinville in Randolph County.

Burks said recently he believed Burr has been inaccessible to the state's citizens at a time when North Carolina needs strong leadership.

Democrat Marcus Williams also has filed as a candidate for the party's Senate primary May 4.

Hundreds of candidates -- from Senate and Congress to the Legislature and judgeships -- have turned in their candidacy papers since the filing period began at noon Monday. The period ends Feb. 26 at midday.

What do you mean Burr isn't in your district? He represents all of NC. And Hagan can't be voted against in the next election. She isn't up again until 2014 or something unfortunate like that.

I can agree with J, Matt, and OSOC. I had the same thing to happen to me. I voted for Dole, cause I knew she would be better. Kay Hagan is a joke, a fraud, and a selfish crooked woman that everybody should vote against come next election. She did'nt get my vote last time and wont get it this time either.

I would say anything with a "D", will be endangered species, in the next election. J and Matt, I have emailed Hagan many times without even an email reply. Burr did reply. He isn't even our district.....I think the tea party that progressives are saying are loudmouthed protests, will dictate election this year. No one can answer this question; When, in the past years, have we seen anything like it before?

Eddie Burks is a freak!!! Some of his ideas ar OK then you get to the 2 years of MANDATORY military service for ALL men and women. This from a guy who never served. I guess he feels quilty. I suppose his way to honor the freedom that our military has provided is destroy freedom???

I've E-mailed her several times. I guess she just doesn't have time for me. I always get a standard E-mail reply. I assure you she doesn't care about the people of the great state of North Carolina.

Leave it to Republicans to find a way to self destruct. You have a seated Republican Senator who is a solid Conservative with a solid lead and some no-name is going to force Burr to waste money that could be spent in the general election.

If anyone has been inaccessible, it's Kay Hagan. Does she even know there is an Eastern North Carolina? If so, you couldn't tell by her "non-visits" here.
