John Edwards Shows Up In Haiti

Hours after John Edwards released a statement admitting he fathered a child with his mistress, the former North Carolina Senator arrived in Haiti.

Edwards flew in to the Port-au-Prince airport Thursday. Edwards says he was in Haiti a year ago and was touched by the people then. Edwards arrived in Haiti with a group of 25-30 people with supplies, medicine, and a group of doctors. Edwards says his plan is to figure out who needs the supplies the most and where the doctors should head. Edwards says he plans on helping in whatever way he can.

Earlier, Edwards released a statement exclusively to NBC saying he is the father of Francis Quinn Hunter, the daughter of his mistress, Rielle Hunter. Edwards also said it was wrong of him to deny being the toddler's father.

In an exclusive to NBC, John Edwards says he fathered a child with his mistress, Rielle Hunter.

Edwards used to be a senator from North Carolina and was the Democratic Vice Presidential nominee in 2004.

Edwards released a statement exclusively to NBC saying he is the father of Francis Quinn Hunter, the daughter of his mistress, Rielle Hunter. Edwards also said it was wrong of him to deny being the toddler's father.

A lawyer for Edwards spoke to NBC's Lisa Meyers in an interview that aired Thursday on the Today Show. He said Edwards is providing for Quinn financially and emotionally.

The lawyer says Edwards describes Quinn as a "beautiful and happy child." Quinn is almost two years old. When asked why Edwards waited until now to reveal his paternity, the lawyer said it was to make sure it was the right thing for Quinn and the three children of John and Elizabeth Edwards.

The report said Elizabeth Edwards learned her husband was the father of the child last summer. John Edwards' lawyer says this saga has been hardest, perhaps, on Elizabeth.

In August 2008, Edwards denied he was the father of Quinn. His lawyer said on "Today," he wasn't sure if Edwards knew he was the father at that time or not. However, he said Edwards knew that it was wrong to say it was not possible that he was Quinn's father.

The child was conceived three months after Elizabeth Edwards announced her cancer had returned and was incurable.

The report on "Today" said John and Elizabeth Edwards are separated currently. NBC says Rielle and Quinn Hunter live in Charlotte, a few hours away from where Edwards lives in Chapel Hill.

The report said Edwards is not speaking publicly right now because of the federal investigation into whether he used campaign money to pay Hunter.

There will be more coverage of Edwards on Friday morning on the "Today Show."

Newport, the poor are already taken care of in the US. The rest of us want the healthcare system fixed, not reinvented. What part of Trillion dollars do you not understand? Anytime the government creates a social program, it fails and is costly. Ask a senior. Now they want us who pay are hard earned money for insurance, to for a program that we already support at hospitals. Whaaattt? So we pay twice. The poor don't pay insurance but they still get medical care. Are you gettin this?

the facts still have yet to be looked at from a logical point of view like how Hollywood and Washington can raise over 200 million dollars to help Haiti, when there are the same conditions in some urban ghettos in the US, we have so many Americans without healthcare, proper housing, proper education and proper nutrition, yet we seem to find the urgent need to assure Haiti that they will be provided these basic human needs for free....I know there is alot of devestation there and alot of deaths Americans included but the conditions there were not much better before the earthquake. We neen to help America...if hollywood can willingly donate this money then the government should make them match the amounts to a us health care bill so then it wont cost Americans thier basic needs to have health insurance welcome to america

Very intelligent argument, Data Man. About what I expected when you know what was said was truthful.

Let's not forget that Republican "men" do not cheat on their wives with women. Never heard of one yet that did. It's always with men at public toilets or young boys.

If it was a woman that cheated, she'd have her own reality tv show right now, and be swilling "drinks" at the local bar while texting "bad boys" on her blackberry, all paid for by alimony. Yep, she'd get everything and become a celebrity. You'd got to be one naive sucker to get involved with a woman. The only women I have in my life are my maids and secretary, and you'd better believe I have surveillance cameras on them 24/7. Instead, y'all pick on the MAN, who has the God-given right to sleep with whoever he wants, whenever he wants. At least before the sissified liberals pushed their feminist/homosexual agenda upon a stoned populace in the 70's.

Data Man, wwwhhhhaaatatt? I guess its the standard for the democratic party. Cheating is OK, lies are optional, just Like Obamas campaign promises, worthless.

Anonoymous, thats good you never cheated. Dont forget to let everyone know that you never had the chance either. Men kill me talking about I am married and I love my wife and I would never do anything like that! You can't because she is the only fool that would give you the time of day.

The double standard of the democratic party is so funny, if a republician cheated, they are up in arms ready to execute him, but a dem cheats, they make every excuse in the book. I'm married and love my wife more then life itself, i take the vows seriously. Lavon-if you cheat then I can undertsand why you love obama and the dem's so much.

Lavon, we will never give it a rest. This guy is threw just like John Kerry. Of course you have no problem with it if it is a democrat, however, if a Republican does it, he has to step down.

Just like I said. She does not care how you people feel. She still loves John and that is all that matters. So why don't you people just give it a rest. The men are just mad they can't be like John(no woman wants you but your wife) and the women are mad because they can't have him(wouldn't give you a second look)
