Hours after John Edwards released a statement admitting he fathered a child with his mistress, the former North Carolina Senator arrived in Haiti.
Edwards flew in to the Port-au-Prince airport Thursday. Edwards says he was in Haiti a year ago and was touched by the people then. Edwards arrived in Haiti with a group of 25-30 people with supplies, medicine, and a group of doctors. Edwards says his plan is to figure out who needs the supplies the most and where the doctors should head. Edwards says he plans on helping in whatever way he can.
Earlier, Edwards released a statement exclusively to NBC saying he is the father of Francis Quinn Hunter, the daughter of his mistress, Rielle Hunter. Edwards also said it was wrong of him to deny being the toddler's father.
In an exclusive to NBC, John Edwards says he fathered a child with his mistress, Rielle Hunter.
Edwards used to be a senator from North Carolina and was the Democratic Vice Presidential nominee in 2004.

A lawyer for Edwards spoke to NBC's Lisa Meyers in an interview that aired Thursday on the Today Show. He said Edwards is providing for Quinn financially and emotionally.
The lawyer says Edwards describes Quinn as a "beautiful and happy child." Quinn is almost two years old. When asked why Edwards waited until now to reveal his paternity, the lawyer said it was to make sure it was the right thing for Quinn and the three children of John and Elizabeth Edwards.
The report said Elizabeth Edwards learned her husband was the father of the child last summer. John Edwards' lawyer says this saga has been hardest, perhaps, on Elizabeth.
In August 2008, Edwards denied he was the father of Quinn. His lawyer said on "Today," he wasn't sure if Edwards knew he was the father at that time or not. However, he said Edwards knew that it was wrong to say it was not possible that he was Quinn's father.
The child was conceived three months after Elizabeth Edwards announced her cancer had returned and was incurable.
The report on "Today" said John and Elizabeth Edwards are separated currently. NBC says Rielle and Quinn Hunter live in Charlotte, a few hours away from where Edwards lives in Chapel Hill.
The report said Edwards is not speaking publicly right now because of the federal investigation into whether he used campaign money to pay Hunter.
There will be more coverage of Edwards on Friday morning on the "Today Show."
